| There's still time to make 2006 IRA contribution
If you haven't contributed funds to an Individual Retirement Account for tax year 2006, or if you've put in less than the maximum allowed, you still have time to do so. You can contribute to either a traditional or Roth IRA until April 17 for the 2006 tax return. Generally, you can contribute up to $4,000 of your earnings for 2006 or up to $5,000 if you are age 50 or older in 2006. Traditional IRA: You might be able to take a tax deduction for the contributions, depending on your income and whether you -- or your spouse, if filing jointly -- are covered by an employer's pension plan. Roth IRA: You cannot deduct Roth IRA contributions, but the earnings might be tax-free if you meet the conditions for a qualified distribution.
Help is out there if you ask for it
Dear Judy: I have heard that Social Security pays benefits to grandparents who have the responsibility of raising grandchildren. Is this true? Many grandparents need help with raising young children again when they lose their own adult children. Any information you can provide grandparents on a fixed income would be helpful. Answer: There is an increased trend of grandparents having the responsibility of caring for grandchildren. Social Security does pay benefits to dependent grandchildren of retirees who draw Social Security benefits under certain conditions. These benefits are paid only until the grandchild reaches age 18. There are exceptions to the 18-year rule that allows payment of benefits to continue if the child is still a full time student attending an elementary or a secondary school.

How to Take the Struggle Out of Tax Time
Novadebt suggests that consumers take the opportunity to carefully examine their tax withholdings in April and make whatever adjustments are necessary to ensure that Uncle Sam isn't getting the best of them. Freehold, NJ (PRWeb) March 25, 2007 -- For many Americans, tax time always brings about a struggle. For some, the struggle involves finding the money they unexpectedly owe Uncle Sam. For others, it involves determining what to do with a large and unexpected refund. While these struggles are obviously very different in nature, both can and should be avoided by those looking to put themselves on the most solid long term financial footing. Novadebt suggests that consumers take the opportunity to carefully examine their tax withholdings in April and make whatever adjustments are necessary to ensure that Uncle Sam isn't getting the best of them.
