| Renninger pension hearings will be closed
EASTON | The public will be barred from hearing the pension request of former city police officer Matthew Renninger, when hearings begin next month. Police pension commission members met Wednesday and tentatively set hearing dates for 8 p.m. May 8 and 7 p.m. May 15 and 17. A majority of commissioners were not in attendance, so hearing dates have yet to be confirmed. Renninger's attorney, Gary Asteak, has requested any hearings be closed to the public because the commission will hear testimony regarding private medical issues, according to commission Solicitor Ralph Bellafatto. Renninger accidentally shot and killed fellow officer Jesse Sollman inside police headquarters in March 2005. A state grand jury declined to recommend criminal charges, following a nearly year-long investigation.
